OCR: Purpose This application, Ulaw, converts mac sampled sounds to Sun Ulaw format sounds and vice versa. In one direction Ulaw extracts the sounds from the 'snd ' resources of any Mac file. Then it interpolates to the Sun audio 8KHz sampling rate and applies the standard Uaw quantization characteristic. In the other direction it reads Sun Uaw Format Sound File and creates a double clickable Mac sound file (sfil) at any desired sampling rate. Usage Any number of mac files can be dragged and dropped onto the Law application icon and Ulaw will extract, play and store every 'snd 'resource in the resource fork of each file. The names of the Sun files created will take the name of the 'snd ' resources with the extension ". au" appended. Similiarly when converting Sun Uaw files the Mac sound file gener ated takes the name in the information field of the header. A mixture of Sun and Mac files can be draged in this way and the application automatically determines what to do. Choices There are three regimes of sampling rate selection that can be chosen in the "Ulaw- mac Sampling Rate" menu (1) standard or preferred Mac sampling rates; (ii) non-Mac standar sampling rates; in this case Sun 8kHa rate and the CD 44.1 KHz rate; and (iii) custom sampling rate anything between 2kHz and 64kHz.
